Acoustic, Phonetic and Prosodic Features of Parkinson's disease Speech

چکیده
One of the frequent symptoms of Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive dysarthria, the difficulty with articulation. Characterization of dysarthric speech is important, for instance, for the adaptation of speech recognition systems to PD patients. In this work, we investigate acoustic and phonetic-prosodic characteristics of speech produced by PD patients in the European Portuguese. For this purpose, a speech database, consisting mainly on phonetically rich sentences, has been collected from a group of patients with different degrees of PD severity and a healthy control group. Only vowels in a stressed position in continuous speech context (i.e. no sustained vowels) were analyzed. Results show a centralization of vowel formant frequencies for PD speech, as expected. However, some of the usual features for discriminating PD speech were not always found to be statistically significant. Furthermore, an analysis of acoustic, spectral and prosodic features towards classifying PD speech shows that dynamic features are of highest importance in this task.

متن کاملThe effect of bilateral subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (STN-DBS) on the acoustic and prosodic features in patients with Parkinson’s disease: A study protocol for the first trial on Iranian patients
Background: The effect of subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (STN-DBS) on the voice features in Parkinson’s disease (PD) is controversial. No study has evaluated the voice features of PD underwent STN-DBS by the acoustic, perceptual, and patient-based assessments comprehensively. Furthermore, there is no study to investigate prosodic features before and after DBS in PD. The curren...

Early, accurate detection of Parkinson’s disease may aid in possible intervention and rehabilitation. Thus, simple noninvasive biomarkers are desired for determining severity. In this study, a novel set of acoustic speech biomarkers are introduced and fused with conventional features for predicting clinical assessment of Parkinson’s disease. We introduce acoustic biomarkers reflecting the segme...
متن کاملUnit Selection Speech Synthesis Using Phonetic-Prosodic Description of Speech Databases
This paper describes an approach to speech synthesis based on using speech databases at different stages of TTS process. Speech database units are phones in different segmental and prosodic contexts. Pitch synchronous segmentation and labeling of databases allows storing both segmental and prosodic information. Phonetic-prosodic annotations of speech databases are involved in off-line training ...

To guarantee a good quality of synthesized speech in a rule-based synthesis, detailed and accurate segmental and suprasegmental rules for a given text are necessary. Especially, much work on the prosodic structure is needed. The goal of this study is to examine roles of syntactic information, intonation pattern, and phrase final lengthening in formation of prosodic units or perception of a phra...
